Description:
Nickel silver is an alloy consisting of copper, nickel and zinc. The name of the alloy comes from the German word Neusilber, which means "new silver". This alloy was invented in Germany in the early 19th century and quickly gained popularity due to its properties and appearance.
At one time, Harley-Davidson faced competition from Japanese and European manufacturers, which at that time were already producing larger and more powerful engines; the need to comply with stricter environmental requirements and noise standards, etc. In addition, Harley-Davidson owners themselves often redesigned their Evolutions in pursuit of more power, i.e. there was obviously a need for it. And the Evo engines were not as ideal as we would like: they had problems with lubrication, oil leakage and others.
Already in 1992, there was a need to increase the engine power: Harley-Davidson saw what tuning companies and individual users were doing in this area. Work began on a new engine with the code P-22, which later became the "Twin Cam". This was a new engine, made in the old traditions: a 45-degree overhead valve V-twin with air cooling. Twin Cam is also called Double Overhead Cam (DOHC). This is an engine with a pair of camshafts in the upper part of the cylinder head. The first controls the intake valves, and the other - the exhaust valves.
