Description:
KnuckleHead was produced from 1936 to 1947 and became a major milestone in the history of Harley-Davidson: from it, as they say, went all the other overhead valve motors of the company.
The Knucklehead name - "knucklehead" or "fisthead" - comes from the knuckle-like clenched fist shape of the valve cover of this motor. It is easily recognizable from the side by a pair of huge "bolts" holding the valve block cover.
They tried to put the new Knucklehead engine into production as quickly as possible, despite the fact that it had quite a lot of oil leaking, mainly from under the valve cover, which was due to the complex shape of the surface that could not be reliably sealed. However, even then Harley-Davidson prioritized style! In addition, valve springs often burst in it, and the rocker arms suffered from a lack of lubrication.
